We need a new model for journalistic theatre to bring urgent stories to an audience overwhelmed with social media distraction. In theatre, people have the opportunity to reflect on a topic together with time and patience. Unlike on social media, they are not distracted – on the contrary, they can grasp the complexity of a given investigation for hours. One theatre evening is equivalent to 3.6 million seconds spent on TikTok, but with a much bigger impact on a personal level. To increase the opportunities of journalistic theatre we need to build the capacity among European theatre professionals and journalists to bring stories faster to the stage and facilitate dialogue with audiences.
We discuss the opportunities ahead with Vanessa Rousselot, co-founder of Diario Vivo, Calle Fuhr, author and dramaturg of the TRUST NETWORK, and David Schraven, publisher of CORRECTIV.

TRUST is a network of eight European theatres that want to achieve the main goal. Among them the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Bulgaria, the National Theatre Prague in Czech Republic, the Schauspiel Köln in Germany and the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers in France.
CORRECTIV is Germany's leading non-profit investigative newsroom that regularly brings investigations to the big stage.

Vanessa Rousselot
Vanessa Rousselot is the founder and co-director of Diario Vivo, a live journalism format that has produced nearly 300 stories and 40 unique shows in major theatres across Spain, and also in Mexico and France. Since 2017, Diario Vivo has established itself as one of the most essential — and consistently sold-out — events in Spain’s media and cultural landscape. Within Diario Vivo, Vanessa Rousselot also works as a storytelling trainer, collaborating with universities, civil society organizations, and companies. Driven by a long-standing passion for translating reality into compelling narratives, Vanessa is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who has filmed extensively across several Arab countries, and a creator of audiovisual content for leading European media outlets. She also works as a script editor and narrative consultant of independent podcasts, including De eso no se habla, a finalist at the 2026 Ambies Podcast Awards. In Spain, she was recently awarded the “Trophée des Français de l’Étranger” in the Culture category.
David Schraven
David Schraven leads the non-profit investigative newsroom CORRECTIV as Publisher. After spending time at taz and Süddeutsche Zeitung, he worked as a freelance journalist in the business and North Rhine-Westphalia departments of the Welt-group. While working as a guest journalist for Time Magazine, David was in New York on September 11th when the towers fell. He also founded the political blog Ruhrbarone. Between 2010 and 2014 David was in charge of the research department at the Content Desk of Funke-Mediengruppe (WAZ/NRZ/WR/WP). David received the Wächterpreis der Tagespresse award for his investigation of the PFT-poison scandal at the Ruhr. He was awarded the Research Prize of the Swiss Wolfgang-Fichtner-Foundation for his work on fraud allegations against former state secretary Zülfiye Kaykin.
