In the post Trump 2.0 world a clear category for news voices has emerged – the news creator. While the span for who is a news creator is wide, some of these personalities have significant cultural clout, particularly with young audiences, and an impact on public debate. What has it meant for the traditional news media and is there an opportunity to learn and partner? Or are the differences between the two spaces too sharp for comfort?

Nicolas Copano
Nicolas Copano

Nicolás Copano is a prominent Chilean journalist and media entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the industry. He is the founder and director of Turno, Chile's first news-focused streaming channel. Turno has pioneered a new model of digital communication, evolving from Nicolás’s individual streaming presence (@Copano) into a professional collective of creators that reaches over 2.4 million unique users monthly with a vibrant ""warm-tech"" approach. Throughout his career, Nicolás has worked at the intersection of traditional and digital media, serving as an Executive Producer for podcasts at Warner Bros. Discovery Latin America and collaborating with international outlets such as CNN Chile, Vice News, and Rolling Stone. He transitioned his successful FM radio show into a 24/7 digital ecosystem to address the need for more agile, data-driven, and community-focused news coverage. Under his leadership, Turno has achieved remarkable audience loyalty, with an average consumption time of 21 minutes per viewer. Nicolás is dedicated to fighting information polarisation by combining rigorous journalistic standards with the aesthetic and speed of the creator economy.

Emilio Domenech

Emilio Doménech is a Spanish journalist and media entrepreneur. He is the founder and editor of WATIF, a digital media outlet focused on global politics, technology, culture, and future trends. Emilio has covered U.S. politics extensively, reporting on multiple presidential elections, and regularly appears as a commentator on radio and television. His work explores how power, technology, and narratives shape public debate, with a particular interest in new media formats and generational audiences.

Salla-Rosa Grohn
Salla-Rosa Grohn

Salla-Rosa Gröhn is a producer and writer working for the Finnish public broadcaster Yle. She specialises in social media journalism that engages young 'hard-to-reach' audiences. Her goal is to create news, documentaries and factual content accessible to diverse groups. At the youth media brand Yle Kioski, she leads some of Finland's most talented young reporters and video journalists. She has produced and scripted documentary series and led teams dedicated to social media journalism across various platforms. In 2021–2022, Salla-Rosa was a Fellow at LSE Polis, where she published a paper on what journalists can learn from influencers. Through this work, she has trained over 10,000 journalists and content creators as part of the UNESCO and Knight Center for Journalism project How to be a Trusted Voice Online. She is currently a Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Her research project focuses on enhancing media literacy skills as part of social media content creation. Having previously explored what journalists can learn from influencers, her goal now is to identify ways to integrate elements into social media journalism that would foster critical thinking skills and enhance media literacy among (young) audiences.

Mitali Mukherjee
Mitali Mukherjee

Mitali Mukherjee is Director of the Journalist Programmes at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. She is a political economy journalist with more than two decades of experience in TV, print and digital journalism. She was a Chevening fellow for the South Asia Journalism Fellowship 2020, a Raisina Asian Forum for Global Governance Young Fellow 2019 and a 2017 fellow of the Australia India Youth Dialogue. In 2020, she was nominated for the prestigious Red Ink Awards in India for two of her business stories. Over the course of her journalistic career, Mitali has been Consulting Business Editor at The Wire and Mint. Prior to that she was Markets Editor at CNBC TV 18 and Prime Time Anchor at TV Today and Doordarshan. She has been a Fellow at The Observer Research Foundation (ORF) where she led Gender Initiatives for the organisation. Mitali has also co-founded two start-ups that focused on civil society and financial literacy. She is a gold medallist in Television Journal...
