What could be harder than taking on these challenges when you’ve just started leading a newsroom? Jillian Green is editor-in-chief of Daily Maverick. She joined Daily Maverick as managing editor in 2017, stepping into a pivotal role at a defining moment for the newsroom. Under her leadership, Daily Maverick transitioned from a bold startup to a powerhouse of independent journalism, growing its readership and staff by over 250% in just five years. She played a critical role in keeping the newsroom thriving during South Africa’s most significant state-level investigation, #GuptaLeaks, ensuring that journalists had the support and editorial structure to produce groundbreaking work. She also launched and oversaw Southern Africa’s largest climate crisis journalism unit, Our Burning Planet, solidifying Daily Maverick as a leader in environmental reporting. Jillian’s tenure has been marked by record-breaking success, with Daily Maverick journalists winning an unprecedented number of local and international awards. Her expertise in newsroom operations, investigative journalism, and editorial strategy has not only strengthened the publication’s impact but also cemented its reputation as a force in global journalism. In September 2024, Jillian succeeded Daily Maverick’s founder, Branko Brkic, as editor-in-chief.

Miranda Patrucic
Miranda Patrucic is editor-in-chief of OCCRP. Miranda Patrucic joined OCCRP in 2006 and was promoted to editor in chief in 2023. She oversees editorial operations for OCCRP’s global newsroom, including 50+ editors across six continents and the production of OCCRP’s investigations and content. Patrucic was one of the first employees at OCCRP, beginning in Sarajevo as the organization’s first fact-checker before moving on to become a researcher, reporter, trainer, and editor. She oversaw work in the Balkans and became known for her reporting about the authoritarian regime in Azerbaijan after her friend and investigative reporter Khadija Ismayilova was sentenced to jail there in 2015. In 2018, she created an innovative program in Central Asia using in-depth reporting fellowships to partner with local journalists and publish investigations from the closed countries of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Franz Wild
Franz Wild is the CEO and editor-in-chief of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in the UK. The Bureau has developed deep expertise in paper-trail reporting, exposing several vast corruption, corporate wrongdoing and abuse of justice scandals. The Bureau is part of a number of international collaborative investigations groups and has pioneered a number of effective impact strategies. As well as significant impact, the Bureau's work has been recognised with several prestigious awards under Franz's leadership. Before joining the Bureau, Franz was a reporter with Bloomberg investigating the intersection between business and politics, and grand corruption. His investigations resulted in a number of enforcement actions including sanctions and substantial penalties against major corporations.
