Painting and literature have often crossed their ways in the history of culture and of the arts with fruitful thematic and formal outcomes. Norwegian writer Hanne Ørstavik (born 1969) will present and discuss her own experience in writing about and inspired by Edvard Munch’s works, to which she has devoted one of her texts. Born in northern Norway, beyond the Arctic Circle, Ørstavik is the author of various novels, some of which were shortlisted for important literary prizes. From her point of view as a Norwegian writer, who has lived in Italy for some years, Ørstavik will also discuss Munch’s role in Norwegian culture. Which memories and expectations are commonly associated to his works? What does he tell us about Norway’s cultural history? What role can his legacy play today and thinking about the future?
