Protests and other crowded gatherings are dynamic situations that can quickly turn dangerous or violent, so it’s important that journalists understand the complex and fast-moving environments they are reporting in, and prepare for any potential threats they may encounter. From volatile crowds and police action to arrest, injury and online targeting, this practical workshop will focus on preparation, risk assessments and smart decision-making. It will pay particular attention to deciding if and when it is safe to visibly identify as a journalist, and - through scenarios and shared experience - help participants gain clear, actionable tools to safely report on civil unrest.
Kindly note that the Centro Alessi has two entrances, one in Via Mazzini and one in Via Danzetta (parallel streets). The entrance for this workshop is in Via Mazzini.
This workshop forms part of the 3-day festival Safety Hub situated in the Centro Alessi.
Organised in association with ACOS Alliance.
