Interactive workshop. Limited to 40 participants. Register here. With shrinking budgets, funding cuts and an outwardly hostile environment to journalism practitioners and news organizations across the globe, the pressure on newsrooms and media support organizations is rising. What if, instead of increasing competition for limited funds, we used this as an opportunity to explore deeper forms of collaboration? How can we build collaboration models that better service audience needs and build community for societies that continue to fragment? A new approach to this kind of collaboration has to start with the way we meet and use the time we have at conferences to explore all options in a trusted space. The session is open to all journalism practitioners who are interested in collectively exploring collaboration at the organizational level. Rather than showcasing polished success stories, the session is designed as a trusted, honest space to exchange what has actually worked — and what has not — in cross-organizational collaboration. After a brief setting-of-the-stage (max. 20 mins) of moderated conversation with the session hosts, we will open up the floor to gather radical ideas, exchange on rules of engagement, and pool existing offers. The focus will quickly shift from speakers to participants: the room itself becomes the core resource. Participants of the session should expect an honest conversation that focuses on harvesting solutions and exchanging concrete ideas, contacts, and resources. The session will take place under the Chatham House Rule. The session will be neither live-streamed nor video-recorded. Organised in association with CORRECTIV and the Pulitzer Center.
