Famiglie artificiali. Gli alberghi genovesi nel basso medioevo (secoli XIII-XV) Quando si parla di famiglia si pensa subito ai legami di sangue. Nella Genova del basso Medioevo, però, esisteva anche un altro modo di “fare famiglia”. A partire dalla seconda metà del Duecento si diffondono i cosiddetti alberghi, consociazioni che riuniscono più famiglie aristocratiche sotto un unico cognome, creando vere e proprie “famiglie artificiali”. Fondate su alleanze e interessi comuni, queste aggregazioni ebbero un ruolo centrale nella vita politica e sociale della città. Ripercorrere la nascita e lo sviluppo degli alberghi tra XIII e XV secolo permette di comprendere come queste aggregazioni contribuirono a ridefinire il concetto di famiglia nella società genovese bassomedievale. Denise Bezzina è professoressa associata di Storia medievale presso l’Università di Genova. Ha conseguito lauree in Storia presso l’Università di Malta e l’Università di Genova e un dottorato in Scienze storiche presso l’Università di Torino. Ha svolto attività di ricerca e insegnamento presso l’Università di Padova e tra il 2019 e il 2021 è stata Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellow presso il CNRS – Centre Roland Mousnier (Sorbonne Université) a Parigi. Dal 2024 è Principal Investigator del progetto ERC Consolidator Grant: Patrifem – Charting Female Property and Patrimonial Rights in Law and Practice across Western Europe (12th-16th Centuries) finanziato dal Consiglio Europeo per la Ricerca.
